
Belgium Long Term ESC Project
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
The hosting entity is a big youth care organization. It needs a volunteer who can join its technical support team. You’ll work in three locations where a lot of youngsters resides: they are boys and girls having difficulties in social skills and learning possibilities, or suffer for social or mental problems, and this is why they don’t live any more in their families. Helping the hosting organization on the technical side is a way to support it in giving these adolescents a better life: it is another way to express and make concrete your spirit of solidarity. You’ll join the workers who maintain the gardens, clean living spaces, meeting rooms and toilets, and provide the colleges with technical support in several tasks like replacing lamps, painting walls, moving furnitures. The technical support team works using a central registration system of the various necessities: every week a schedule is prepared that points out the various interventions that need to be done.
ACCOMMODATION, MEALS AND TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
The European Union will provide you a food allowance of 250 euros per month and a pocket money of 180 euros per month. You will live in a studio near the city centre of Antwerp, in a premise of the hosting organization. The travel from Italy to Belgium and back is fully reimbursed. To move inside Antwerp a bike will be at your disposal, and you will also receive transport tickets valid both locally in Antwerp than all over Belgium. An insurance coverage agreed with the European Union covers you from any possible risk.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
You will attend three official training sessions: a pre-departure training before leaving Italy; an on-arrival training in a few weeks after your advent in Belgium; a midterm training, around at half of the volunteering experience. You’ll attend Dutch lessons, to better integrate in Antwerp’s context, clear instructions about the tasks you’ll have to perform, basic trainings in working with youngsters and session of reflection about your own hard and soft skills and competences.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
You’re welcome in the project if you’re really motivated towards the execution of technical tasks in the framework of a social oriented context. This means that, anyway, even doing supporting and manual works, you must act and serve as a positive role model for the youngsters hosted or attending the organization’s premises. You must have a sufficient fluency in English, and be also ready to get acquainted with Dutch language. You must be available to join the project for all 12 months scheduled. A preference will be given to the candidate possessing a driving licence for cars.
