What is the Work and Holiday Program?

The Work and Holiday program allows individuals aged 18-30 to live, study, and work in Australia for up to 12 months. This program is designed for students and recent graduates who wish to combine work, language study, and travel in Australia.

Participants obtain a visa known as “Subclass 462.” Those selected can determine their own periods for work and vacation in Australia. Language training can be taken for up to 4 months (17 weeks), and participants can work for a maximum of 6 months with one employer during the 12-month period.

What Are the Visa Application Requirements for Work and Holiday?

To qualify for the Australian Work and Holiday visa program, you must meet all the following criteria:

General Requirements:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old (not having reached 31).
  • Hold a valid passport.
  • Have never previously entered Australia on a Work and Holiday visa or participated in this program.
  • Have no criminal record.
  • Have no dependent children.
  • Have a government support letter.
  • Meet conditions related to language proficiency, education, financial status, and health.

Education Requirements:

  • University students must have at least an associate degree.
  • Students in a 4-year university program must have completed at least the first two years of their studies (excluding preparatory year).

English Language Proficiency:

  • Provide evidence of one of the following:
    • An average score of 4.5 in the IELTS (General or Academic) test within the last year.
    • TOEFL scores within the last year: Computer-based test 133, Paper-based test 450, Internet-based test 45-46.
    • A score of 30 in the PTE (Pearson Test of English).
    • At least 5 years of education in a high school where English is the medium of instruction.
    • At least 1 year of full-time or equivalent part-time study in Australia at a higher education institution.

Financial Requirements:

  • Demonstrate sufficient financial resources to cover living expenses in Australia, with at least AUD 7,000 in your bank account and the cost of a round-trip airfare.
  • Do not purchase a plane ticket before applying.

Health Requirements:

  • Health requirements may vary based on your health conditions and the type of work you plan to do in Australia.
  • A health report from authorized medical institutions may be required.

Government Support Letter:

  • A government support letter is necessary for the visa application. The 100-person quota is for the visa stage only, and there is no quota for obtaining the government support letter. Each applicant has a chance to get a visa after several evaluations.
  • Documentation for the Work and Holiday program is processed through vfsglobal.
  • You can work as many hours as you wish per week.

  • You can work full-time (with a maximum of 6 months at any one employer).

You are not required to have a job offer from Australia when applying for the visa.
