We get a lot of questions and complaints about this subject. I apply for projects, I apply, but it doesn’t work, I don’t know where to start, I don’t know how to get accepted, but if you say I want it too much, this article is exactly for you. In my article 10 Mistakes Made in Project Applications, I would like to answer you with explanatory information about the subject.
1. Take action
Most of the time we are waiting for projects to come and find us. FALSE ! Spend extra time to participate in projects. Be a member of NGOs, public institutions, communities and clubs operating in the region where you live. Visit them frequently. Participate in their continuous activities. Become part of the organisations. And then? You will see by living.
2. Follow up
We follow it instantly. WRONG! Recently, there are a lot of pages where projects are shared and disseminated on this topic. Follow these accounts closely by turning on their notifications. Following the pages periodically allows you to see only the projects shared in that period. If you follow daily, the project you want will not be overlooked. If you want to know where and how to find European Union Projects, I recommend you to take a look here.
3. First be interested, then be informed
We are ignorant about the subject. WRONG! It is very difficult to form an opinion about something we don’t know. First of all, get interested in the issues. Take your coffee or tea and start to be interested in projects. After a certain time, you will see that you will have detailed information. (You will find answers to questions such as what it is, why it is being done, what is desired) Being interested leads to being informed.
4. Analyse the complete information about the project
We do not analyse the project we want to apply for sufficiently. WRONG! Most of the candidates go to the application page without reading the project details and descriptions. For this reason, in most projects, 70% of the applications are not accepted because they do not fit the desired profile. What you need to do is to read the infopack (information package) created for the project in detail.
5. Care and Attention
Applications for projects are generally prepared in a sloppy and careless manner. WRONG! Please pay attention to its native language or English grammar rules in the documents prepared during the application (Example: During the application, some people write their name and surname in small letters, while others write their full name in capital letters)
6. Short answers to the questions
The forms are filled in with short answers. WRONG!If you fill in the application form to fill in the application form, those who read the form will read it to read it. Do not use short sentences in the application. I don’t know. I have no idea. Do not write short meaningless sentences such as I will go for a trip. This shows how much you care about yourself and the other party.
This is one of the most important points of the application. In general, candidates give very short answers. There are even candidates who think that they have answered enough with just one word. Try to write as much detail as possible to the questions you are asked.
7. Introduce yourself well
We usually fill in the form thinking that the other party knows you. WRONG! In applications, you are expected to answer questions or prepare documents as if you are telling yourself to someone who does not know you at all. Most of the candidates give very short and inadequate answers such as “I am a 2nd year student at Amsterdam University”. Be sure to share what you like and what your experiences are.
8. Have an idea about the country
Making an application about countries that you have no idea about. WRONG! Even if you have not travelled to the country you are about to apply to before, you can have an idea by doing research about that country. Be sure to include notes and details about the project country in the form you fill in during the application or in the documents you send in order to show your motivation.
Writing “hello” in the language of that country while sending an e-mail will give you a big plus point.
9. Pay attention to sending mail!
When candidates send e-mails, they only attach and send documents of interest as if there is no human being in front of them. WRONG! Subject, body and signature fields are very important in mail. Be sure to write a greeting and 2-3 sentences explaining why you are sending an e-mail.
10. Focus on what is required of you
Candidates do not focus on what is desired. FALSE ! There is a tendency to do the undesirable and not to do the desirable during the application. Do not do this. If you are asked for an application form, fill it out. If you are asked to send an e-mail, send an e-mail. It is as simple as that.
Be patient. Don’t give up too soon. Apply for the right project at the right time.
